General nutritional suggestions for the cardiovascular system
– Eat plenty of fresh vegetables They should make up 60 to 80% of your daily food intake in volume (for an adult). The best types of vegetables are the seasonal, locals ones, especially the green leafy vegetables like cabbage, kale, salad or spinach, as they are high in calcium, magnesium and potassium.
– Eat nuts and seeds.
– Avoid fried food & any man-made fat such as margarine, trans fat or hydrogenated oil.
– Do not add any salt to your food or eat any food with added salt.
– Reduce your intake of sugar, especially white and artificial sugar
– Include a 30 minute moderate daily exercise such as a walk outside.
– Manage your stress: do some daily relaxation exercises. The Relaxation section has an excellent exercise designed by Indian doctors for people suffering from hypertension.

Nutritional advice for High-blood pressure (hypertension)
Follow the General suggestions above and also ensure to add the following advice:
– If you are overweight, do all you can to lose weight in a gentle and rigorous manner.
– Completely cut salt.
– Drink at least 1.5 litre of water daily (if you are an adult).
– Refrain from sugar and refined carbohydrates.
– Do twice a day the relevant breathing exercise described in the Relaxation section.
Nutritional advice if you suffer from a high level of “bad” cholesterol (LDL, HDL…)
Follow strictly the general suggestions described above, and also try and implement these advice as well:
– Organise your life so that you can have regular gentle physical exercise (at least 3 times a week).
– Reduce, with the aim of eliminating grains and sugars of your diet.
– Eat a significant portion of your food raw. Ideally, 80% of your diet should be made of raw vegetables.
– Increase your intake of garlic and avocado, two wonderful food for this condition.
– Make sure you are getting plenty of high-quality fats. Fish such as tuna, herring, mackerel are excellent sources. Likewise, nuts and seeds can help a lot (see the relevant Health Tip in the digestive section).
– If you can, cut smoking and drinking alcohol.
